**This is so not a sponsored post**The ever thought provoking Heather at Notes from Lapland has got me thinking this morning, about our nether regions. She asks if we've ever had a good look down there and what's normal and acceptable. Now I think that pretty much anything goes in terms of shape, colour etc and whilst my vagina is unlikely to ever win 'best in show' it's never received any complaints, and it's been well used so to speak.
What I am thankful for, for once, is my age. It seems that the presentation of your lady garden nowadays is just as important as the hair on your head. Back in the day when my own topiary might have got an airing on a Saturday night with some lucky young man, all it had to be was relatively tidy and clean. A quick trim and edge so nothing spilt over the top or sides of your kecks and bob was indeed your uncle. Just before your annual girls abroad holiday to Corfu you might go and get a professional wax, which just meant taking it back an inch at the sides so nothing strayed from your bikini as you tried to exit the swimming pool sexily, attempting to catch the eye of that lad from Bolton staying in the next apartment. I'm now 38 and this is still my approach to my own personal downstairs grooming, although alas my days of even attempting to exit a swimming pool with any remote hint of dignity have long gone.
Today's young fillies don't have it so easy. To Hollywood or Brasilian? How about a nice heart shape, dyed pink for a special occasion? What length is acceptable? Do you shave, wax or cream? How long do you let it go before it needs restyling? Then you might have issues with ingrowing hairs and blocked hair folicles. It all sounds a painful and itchy business and quite expensive as well.
So is it an age thing, or am I just incredibly lazy in this department? Personal grooming has never been my strongest point, you only need look at my nails to see that. Have things really moved on so much or is it just the really high maintenance girls who go to so much effort?
And what about the men? I'm lucky I guess in that t'husband has never expressed an interest in me taking more care over pubic hairstyles. He's more of an underwear man anyway so I guess that's where he gets his kicks. Actually, maybe he's an underwear man because he secretly can't stand my more 'au natural' attitude. But do men care, do they have a preference nowadays? Are they put off by a more overgrown offering? Are younger men demanding that their womenfolk visit the beauty salon for a Hollywood? Maybe because all porn stars are either completely bare or have just a slither of landing strip that it's now the only desirable option?
